Lean Manufacturing and “AOI” Capability
Lean Manufacturing and “AOI” Capability

OES, Inc. is preparing for future growth and giving clients two more reasons to choose their company for Complete Sub-contract Assembly Solutions.

Raised and educated in Germany, Stefanie Stoelzel is an expert in Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing. Her three months of training OES employees and management in “value stream mapping” and “5S” has convinced the company to capitalize on her exceptional knowledge for a longer-term agreement.

Lean manufacturing or lean production is a practice that considers the expenditure of resources for any goal other than the creation of value for the end customer to be wasteful, and thus a target for elimination. Working from the perspective of the customer, "value" is defined as any action or process that they would be willing to pay for. In short, the lean tools that Stefanie brings to OES, position the company to create more value with less cost to their customers.

“It’s like Spring clean up on a corporate level” explains Stefanie. “The efficiency that comes from identifying, organizing, and refocusing is refreshing and gives a little boost to internal confidence as well.”

aoi_machine-smTo further support these efforts and prepare for a successful future, OES has made a significant investment in automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment along with “IPC” training and recertification.

“There’s no doubt our industry is facing challenging times” explains Carl Thompson, Engineering Manager at OES, “but with this comes opportunity. The AOI allows us to meet the needs of customers locally and secures our position as a top quality producer.”

Stefanie adds that, “progressive companies that use innovation and flexibility as positive differentiators during this economic crisis will be the ones to stay the course. Many will even see themselves picking up speed along the way.”
